The collection of Saregama Films 'The Japanese Wife', directed by Aparna Sen, shows a very promising start off at 88% initial collection with big budget films "Jane Kahan Se Aayi Hai" 32% and Prince languishing at 29%.

As per Apurv Nagpal – Managing Director – Saregama India Limited, the makers of the film, "We were aware of the dreaded IPL affect specially in sports loving territory of Bengal but we have positioned it to target audience which has given a very encouraging initial draw and with great content and mouth to mouth publicity we expect a great business from The Japanese Wife."

With big budget films like Prince & Jane Kahan Se Aayi, doing the rounds of multiplexes, 'The Japanese Wife' was considered as an underdog pitched against these huge films.

"Still the film had many cine goers flocking to view this film as against its much more publicized contemporaries, " said Nagpal, adding that the film has been widely acclaimed by the critics as well, all over.

The film is in contention for the Best Director, Best Actor and Best Cinematographer awards, said a Saregama release. "In fact the performance of the Japanese actor Chigusa Takaku has been rated very highly and she may be the first foreigner to receive a national award."
